The New York Islanders finally have a new home and it’s in Brooklyn
"He got offers to move the team out of state -- good offers -- but Charles wouldn't do that," Ratner said. "Charles is the real hero here today."
Both Wang and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman stated in the past that the Islanders wouldn't play in Nassau Coliseum one day longer that they had to. Wang said he had serious options to move the team far away -- Kansas City and Quebec City both had been mentioned -- but stuck to his desire to remain in the area.
"The Islanders, I believe, will be strengthened because they were playing in an inadequate facility, and the fan experience here will be much better," Bettman said. "If a franchise is strengthened, that's good for everybody."

"It saves one question for me, and absolutely it's a big one," Snow said after the gala announcement Wednesday at Barclays Center. "Obviously we get a lot of certainty now. To be able to stay in the area and play in this facility is just fantastic."
Capuano told NHL.com. "This is a beautiful new facility and our players will be extremely proud to call this our home."

Do we have some obstructed seats? Yes we do. Are fans aware of those obstructed seats before they purchase them? Yes they are. There’s really nothing we’re going to do from a capital improvement standpoint. You can watch the game on your mobile device. The game is on the scoreboard. There are many ways to view the game if you’re in one of those obstructed seats.

Under the current lease, the Islanders — who were losing up to up to $20 million at Nassau Coliseum — gave up business control in exchange for an annual average lump sum of $53.5 million from Barclays, with the rink earning revenue from sponsorships and ticket and suite sales.

"Compared to the Nassau Coliseum, you bet," Bettman said. "I mean, it's comfortable. You can get fed without standing on line for two periods. You can go to the restroom"
This summer, Jon Ledecky and Scott Malkin will take over as the team's principal owners, and Bettman said he has no reason to think ownership isn't happy with the venue.
"I assume so," Bettman said when asked about the new owner's opinion of Barclays Center. "They're not complaining to me about it."

“There are some issues about playing in Barclays, it may be fundamental to the ice system, and that’s not something that can be fixed in the short term,” the commissioner said. “I think as is prudent, Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky are reviewing the situation and looking very seriously at what their options are.”

“Over the last two months, I have met with Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, Islanders owners, I’ve met with the county and the state,” Law said. “What I just learned very recently is that BSE will be offering a plan to the Islanders to move them back to the Coliseum.”
“It makes no sense to build a new arena less than 10 miles away from the brand-new Nassau Coliseum,” he said. He believes the two sites “should complement each other, not cannibalize each other.”

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said Thursday that the new Nassau Coliseum is “not a long-term option” for the Islanders despite recent comments by Long Island business and political leaders that the team could move back there.

If the Islanders decide to opt out, the team can choose to leave at the end of next season or the end of the 2018-19 season. If Barclays triggers the opt-out, the Islanders would have to leave after the 2018-19 season.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman told reporters last month that the Islanders expect to submit a bid to the state later this year to build a new hockey arena at Belmont Park in Elmont.
You know the @NYIslanders in Brooklyn is horrible when even the commissioner is sleeping at the game.
